GHHS Nerf Wars 2016
Important things to know:
The Rules/How it works:
General:
Weapons:
Kills and Grace Periods:
Lastly, please please remember that Nerf Wars is in no way connected to Gig Harbor High School. That means… DO NOT bring your Nerf Guns into school, and if they’re in your car they must be hidden so Kevin cannot see them. To put it simply, don’t be stupid about your choices because this is a fun tradition, but the school can easily take it away if it is too disruptive or someone ends up hurt. Failure to follow these rules CAN get your team eliminated. Have fun but don’t forget we still have to graduate in June. ;)
Important things to know:
- The cost of Nerf Wars this year is $10 per person, no matter how many people are on your team.
- A team may have up to 7 members (and no fewer than 2)
- The people on your team may be GHHS SENIORS/GHHS RUNNING START SENIORS ONLY.
- The DEADLINE to turn in your team sign-ups and money to Riley Paul is Friday, April 8th. This way I can return to you further instructions prior to Spring Break.
- The starting date of Round 1 is Monday, April 25th (at 12:00am) immediately following Spring Break.
- Nerf Wars will conclude MONDAY MAY 30th: Remaining teams at the end of round on May 29th will be invited to take part in the final tournament on Memorial Day.
The Rules/How it works:
General:
- Nerf Wars is an honesty based game. If there is a dispute over whether a kill is legitimate or not, Riley will make the final decision (based on proper evidence). If there is no evidence, the teams will be responsible over coming to an agreement.
- Be respectful of property. If you damage someone's property, it is YOUR responsibility.
- If you get in trouble with the law, it is completely on you. Nerf Wars is not responsible for any of your actions.
- Report all kills to Riley within 24 hours. You can call to report before 10 if you have any questions, but after that text me and I will respond by the morning. To report a kill, text me the name of the person killed and what team they’re on, the name of the person who shot them and what team they’re on, and the approximate time.
- No stealing keys (or anything obviously).
- A person in a RUNNING car (the driver AND all passengers) is safe and cannot be shot. for someone to be able to shoot from a car, it must also be completely off.
- You may not come into a house (including garage) unless invited in by someone else who was previously invited in. Ex: a family member or an invited friend.
- You may not block garage door sensors, or climb in windows (even if they’re open), but you may shoot through them.
- You may not use Nerf Wars as an excuse to be late to school.
- The teams left on the last day at 2:00pm will split the money.
- Riley DOES have the power to remove anyone or any team from the game at any time. So don’t complain a lot or constantly get yourself into trouble.
Weapons:
- You may use Nerf Brand guns only. You may modify the guns, but not the bullets.
- Nerf swords, balls, and shields are not allowed.
- You may not use shields in general, unless it is another person, your gun, or something you’re carrying (ex: if you’re holding a book and the person hits your book, the book is allowed as a shield)
- Darts may be thrown.
Kills and Grace Periods:
- Every team hunts two teams and is hunted by two teams each round.
- If you get shot, you are out and are considered “dead”
- ALL Peninsula School District buildings and facilities AND TCC (including GH campus) are Nerf Free 24/7. This includes parking lots.
- ALL Uptown/Safeway area businesses (this includes all parking lots, the entire Uptown area) are completely NERF FREE
- Nerf Free Zones are typically for businesses and not private residences. However, certain neighborhoods have asked to be nerf free as in the past people have caused damage to property of people not involved in Nerf Wars at all.
- Teams will receive a complete list of Nerf Free Zones after they are registered.
- If at any point an adult asks you to leave their property, you need to do it. If the cops get involved, it’s all on you.
- There is a 10 minute grace period before and after committed activities. This includes:
- School (Unless you leave school for a non-class related activity: ex: off campus lunch.)
- Sports practices & games, school and outside of school
- Work (same applies as school: if you leave for lunch/break: you are no longer nerf free.)
- Volunteer Work (scheduled volunteer work)
- Note: The grace period ends when you are ALLOWED TO LEAVE the activity, not when you’re scheduled to. This is to protect those who don’t have a set end time or have to stay later for any reason. For example, if you leave school at 2:05, your grace period ends at 2:15. If you have work that starts at 9, your grace period before begins at 8:50. However, if you are scheduled to work until 10, but your boss requires you to stay and you clock out at 10:07, that is when your grace begins. The same standard goes with sports practices and events. Your grace begins when your coach dismisses you.
- Doctors appointments (and things similar)
- Also- note that there are some things not listed that I will consider executable to have grace- but you MUST clarify with me ahead of time.
- All Church related gatherings (Young Life, Youth Group, Actual Church Services, etc.) follow the same rules as if you were going to work/committed activities. EXCEPT! You have 10 minutes before and 10 minutes after the event BEGINS AND ENDS where you are safe. NOT WHEN YOU DECIDE TO LEAVE.
- Sports players are always protected at an away game, even though they aren’t Nerf Free facilities.
- You cannot be shot if you are naked on your property AND ONLY ON YOUR PROPERTY. You must ALREADY be naked upon being shot for the naked rule to apply.
- You may not make someone late for school, work, and committed activities listed above.
